Newry Train Station
This contract involved the complete demolition of the existing train station on the outskirts of Newry and the construction of new railway station buildings, platforms, canopies and associated site development works including a park & ride facility and bus-turning areas.
Key features and benefits:
- The early work we carried out work consisted of the temporary relocation of existing station facilities, provision of temporary accesses and then the construction of the new station building.
- We then constructed the link stairwell building to the down line platform, the high level enclosed air bridge linking the two buildings, the removal and renewal of platform canopies, the part extension/part resurfacing of platforms, the construction of large park and ride car park and bus terminal with associated landscaping, drainage etc.
- We constructed the station building using a steel frame, with part Staffordshire Blue brick, Kingspan cladding and a zinc roofing system.
- Of particular interest was the work associated with the air link bridge. To ensure that train schedules were not affected, Felix O’Hare & Co Ltd had to carry out the majority of the work over the live train line during the night. Specialist PTS training had to be undertaken by all personnel working in the vicinity of the live train line.
